Coordinating for Impact and Innovation

Steinbeis Europa Zentrum (SEZ) is the administrative coordinator of the EU-funded project TOXBOX, supporting the development of safer, more sustainable toxicity testing methods.

Working closely with Spartha Medical, the scientific coordinator, we ensure that the consortium works efficiently, collaboratively, and in full alignment with the Euopean Commission requirements.

But our role also goes beyond administrative duties, leading the development and implementation of the project’s communication, dissemination, and exploitation strategy, and supporting intellectual property management. With 35 years of experience in EU project management, SEZ brings in proven methodologies – from exploitation workshops to business strategy development, science communication and knowledge transfer.

What we’re currently working on

Currently SEZ is focusing on several strategic tasks as producing the TOXBOX general project video together with a video agency, further populating the project website and building the TOXBOX community. As the project is currently finishing its first reporting period, SEZ is also guiding the consortium in preparing the report to the European Commission and supporting the organization of the project review meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany, in collaboration with the local host, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Challenges and Learnings

While TOXBOX offers continuity with past project collaborations like PANBioRA and IMMODGEL, it also introduces us to new ground – particularly in the highly technical field of toxicity testing. As a non-scientific partner, SEZ continously learns from the scientific expert teams and contributes by translating complex insights into strategic actions that support project success.

Coordinating a consortium of 16 partners across 10 countries is both a privilege and a complex task. It demands clear communication, strategic planning, and flexibility. Despite the natural challenges that come with coordination across disciplines and borders, the experience so far has been highly positive. Strong collaboration and shared commitment within the consortium keep the project on track.

Looking Ahead

As the administrative backbone of TOXBOX, SEZ is committed to ensuring smooth and effective collaboration within the consortium, supporting the timely delivery of results, and maximising the impact and visibility of project outcomes. Together with Spartha Medical, SEZ will continue guiding the project toward real-world application of scientific advancements.

Ultimately, the mission is clear: to coordinate effectively, communicate impactfully, and work as one cohesive team. Because in projects like TOXBOX, success lies not only in groundbreaking science but also in the strength of collaboration.
